Selling my car - will I get a good price from an auto parts recycler?

When you decide to sell your car, finding a buyer who is willing to offer a good price for your vehicle is the main objective. Often, you’ll be replacing your old car with a new one and approaching a dealer for a trade-in is the first ‘port of call’. Where a good price can’t be negotiated for a trade-in, you might then approach a used car dealer to see what price they might offer you to purchase your vehicle. Selling your car privately via online car sales websites and print classified advertisements can often result in a better price. Even parking your car on a roadway with high passing traffic with a sign in the window can provide good exposure.

Recycling car parts

If your car or some of its components are in good working condition, you might consider taking them to an auto parts recycler to sell. This is particularly the case if you have a collector’s car with rare parts components. An auto parts recycler will offer a fair market price for both parts and also perhaps for the base metal.

Motor wrecker

If your car has had a serious accident, is very old or in a neglected, unsalable state you might take it to a motor wreckers for the metal to be stripped and recycled. These days the materials from wrecked cars are often recycled for use in the manufacture of new cars.
